The Cofán Community
By supporting indigenous communities, we carry out our commitment to supporting the heroes and protectors of our Earth. The Cofán Community lives in the Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador, and is committed to safeguarding the biodiversity and health of the Rainforest they call home.
The Cofán often comes face to face with illegal fracking and deforestation on their ancestral lands. These activities reap detrimental effects on them and their land. Hundred year old trees get cleared, and their water is completely contaminated with petroleum due to oil spills that have occurred.
Since partnering with Green Superheroes Movement, the Cofán has been able to purchase boats to patrol their rivers and stop illegal fracking and deforestation. We have also collaborated in starting the work for legally protecting 32,000 hectares of their land in the Amazon to make sure they are granted full control over their home.
Pictured to the left is our Ambassador Janeth Guanulema, a young change maker from the Cofán Community. She has recently started an organization called Hijos de el Celba (children of the forest) that we partner closely with in protecting their rights and land.
We are currently working towards protecting even more of the Cofán's land, and exploring the idea of promoting eco-tourism in their village to help support the community and their message. In addition to this, we are partnering with 501(c)(3) nonprofit, W.A.T.A (Water Access for All) to provide the community with water filters in 2026, ensuring that they have long lasting acsess to fresh, clean water.
Learn more about Janeth and her community in our award winning documentary, Green Superheroes 2030.
